Update 9.8.4 and Thank You

Update 9.8.3 was rejected by Apple. There were (are?) still bugs & we are trying to fix them. Might also have been a problem yesterday with the web server we use (not really under our control). So the next possible update will be 9.8.4.

Thank you again to all those who are playing JLMahJongg.

Also thanks for updating to the latest version quickly. The older 9.7.X version should still work for a while.

Sorry, but I have another update already. Not all of the fixes got into update 9.8.2. Particularly, the one that keeps the new game types saved and does not always switch them back to Basic1.

Also, sorry that I reset the current scores back to zero due to the updated app format. If that bothers you (Guest0, Guest1, or Tester1), let me know and I can manually set the current scores back to any record high value you set. The records are retained from before.

Version 9.8.4 should be available soon to fix that problem. I was trying to go too fast to get the 2025 card out.

Another Update Needed: 9.8.2

Ooops. Found another bug in the new card code that may prevent use of the new cards. Will update ASAP. Web/browser version is already updated, so you can use that with the new card for now if you just can’t wait. Might still be able to use the new cards if you set the card type each time you start the app. The bug sets the card type back to Basic1 every time the app is restarted if one of the new cards was last used.

Also found a couple of bugs in the code editor, so don’t try to use that for the 2025 card yet.

Also, the Guest0 account is available again if anyone who was using that before wants to use it again. If you logged in to a different account, you need to logout and relogin as Guest0.

The 9.8.2 update has been submitted to Apple for review. Waiting for approval. Still need to complete the update distribution for other devices.

Sorry for the trouble.

John

Web Browser Version Updated

I just updated the web browser version to 9.8.1 with the new JL2025 card.

If anyone is using the older web browser version let me know & I will keep supporting it. If you want the JL2025 card added to it, also let me know. Otherwise I am going to remove it as an option and retire it. I can’t tell if anyone is using it.

Thanks,
John

Update 9.8.1 Almost Ready

The latest update with the JL2025 card is almost ready for all device types. It is available for the iPad now. NOTE: on an iPad you need to quit out of the app after you change the card type for the new card type to take effect. Ask me if you don’t know how to do this. Might be true of some other device types. I will fix in a future version.

A few other potential problems: 1) In Windows, my antivirus app sometimes brings up an approval window behind the app and stops the app from proceeding. If this happens, it looks like the app is hung. You need to bring up the approval window (can use alt tab in Windows) and allow the app to run and/or use the microphone. 2) When the app first starts, the first time you click on a button, the click is not recognized. You have to click at least one more time before button clicks start being recognized. This is a bug in the game engine, Godot. The new 9.8.X JLMahJongg version has a new input file format so you will need to log in again when you first run the app. It will make you select an account. Clicking on an account row (such as Guest0) tends to respond slowly and need several clicks. The row button is selected when the row turns green. Then you can press the login button. After you log in the first time, it will automatically log you in to the same account unless you manually log out or that account is busy.

Version 9.8.0 had some problems and I already updated to 9.8.1. Most people who are using the app are on macos (OSX devices like Macbooks). The 9.8.1 JLMahJongg app for macos has been submitted to Apple for testing & approval; still waiting for that to be done.

I am planning on working on updating the rest of the versions today: web/browser, Windows, Android, and Linux. We are playing with real tiles using the 2025 card for the first time this afternoon.

Have Fun!

JL2025 Card Coming Soon to JLMahJongg

Hi. In case you’re keeping track of our update progress: I just finished updates to support the 2025 card. Lisa finished creating an Intermediate1 card option & I am going to enter that now. Then I should be ready to clean up the code and publish the updated app (goal is by the end of today). I probably will need to fix a few things later because we’re not testing much so we can get the JL2025 card out ASAP.

Also need to update the manual. I’ll at least put the new Basic2 and Intermediate1 cards in there so you can print them out and use them, if you like.

Remember: if you want your own account, just ask me. There is some limit to how many I will add, so the first people who ask will get their own account. You are welcome to continue using the Guest0, Guest1, Guest2, Guest3, and Tester1 accounts.

If you want to continue using the old version of the app for some reason, you may need to run it in offline mode at some point. That is because I plan to stop maintaining the status data on the internet that version needs.

Update coming soon!

Hi all you Mah Jongg lovers. Thanks for using our app. Is anyone enjoying it? Please let us know what you think.

Congrats to all you players who have racked up a impressive scores and big wins.

We got our NMJL 2025 cards today. So we will have an update with a JL2025 card option soon. The next update will also include: bug fixes, new Basic2 and Inter1 cards (intermediate, a little harder than Basic cards), and a new feature (called training for now) that lets you enter any tiles (13 or 14) or quickly generate random tiles you can use to practice what hand, group, and passed tiles to select.

There are 6 new line types on the 2025 card; so it will take a few days to implement these. Also note that there is one (at least) error on the card. The 2468 group line 4, is shown with all sets in blue (normally would indicate only 1 suit), but it has to have three suits, as noted in the text. Otherwise, you would need 6 twos of the same suit (could do with Jokers, but that is not what was indended due to the text). So the 2468 should be in green, the first 222 in red, and the 2nd 222 in blue.

There are also some JLMahJongg updates under the hood to make the app easier to manage (for me) and more stable (for you). The training update will also help me to test the odds calculations. I am also updating to the latest game engine, Godot 4.4.

Have fun.

New Update 9.7.13 (31)

Happy New Year!

This update fixes one bug that can cause an error and stop the app in some cases when you get Mah Jongg.

We still have not received any feedback on our new app. It would be nice to hear from someone. What do you like or dislike about our app?

You guest0 and guest1 players are still welcome to request your own individual account. Congratulations on being able to win and get such high scores. It is much harder to win at the Pro level. So far we only have one brave pro friend playing at the pro level.

Update 9.7.12 (30) and Good News

Hi Mah Jongg players. A minor update will be available soon. This updated fixes problems if playing with multiple real players. Most people appear to be only playing against all computer players.

The good news is our company, Seaside Dream LLC, has been validated as an official and trustworthy software development company. This means you can now download the Microsoft Windows version of the app from our website without all the warnings about it being unknown and possibly unsafe. Google may scan the .zip file for viruses. It may also ask you to allow use of the microphone.

Google also plans to release more Google Play Games on PC android apps. This will be an alternate way to play on a Windows PC. We will try to get our app available that way as well.

Congratulations to the Guest0 and Guest1 players that have been winning a lot and achieving record scores. If it gets too easy, you might want to go up to a higher level and/or use the JL2024 card. Also, you are welcome to request your own account to keep track of just your scores (completely free).

As always, we welcome any feedback on anything you don’t like, would like added/changed, or things you particularly like.

Thanks,

John & Lisa

Update 9.7.10

This update fixes a bug in the Auto Hold function pointed out by a player (Thank You). It also makes the beginner computer players play more like beginners (they only try to make one hand at a time). Another change is: at the beginner skill level, the app shows the hold and call buttons for every discarded tile, whether or not you can call the tile. This is so beginners can learn which tiles they can call and which tiles they can’t. Often beginners (and some experienced players) feel the app is not letting them try to call tiles they should be able to call.

If you dislike this change, just set your skill level to intermediate. This will change all the options to the defaults for intermediate. You can then change any of the options back to what they were, if you like.

There is still a minor bug in the auto hold where it flashes the call button after every discard when ON. Also there is a bug in cancelling a call if playing with multiple real players. I will fix these bugs in the next update. Let me know if you find any other bugs. Thank You.
