Volunteering

This is at the top of my list because it is the most rewarding and my favorite activity.

Unfortunately I stopped most volunteering due to COVID and health issues. I hope to find some places to volunteer again.

I met so many great people and learned a lot. Here are some places I volunteered:

  1. Mystic Aquarium Fish and Invertebrates (F & I) Department – So much fun & I love the aquarium.
  2. Harkness Memorial State Park – Maintaining the beautiful gardens, grape vines, rock garden, and orchard. I harvested grapes and made wine that they auctioned off at the mansion. Preparing for and working at their annual plant sale is another highlight.
  3. Mercy By The Sea Spiritual Retreat and Conference Center – Vegetable Gardening and Landscaping – A great place to volunteer – learned a lot from other Master Gardeners. Holiday wreath making was a fun activity.
  4. UConn Master Gardener Centers in Norwich and Haddam – Got to help people solve problems with their gardens and plants. Required volunteering to maintain Master Gardener certification.
  5. Knights of Columbus – Helping the parish and serving the community. Especially loved serving at the fish fries.
