- Why does the app not show the hold and call buttons most of the time?
- The app knows when you can call a tile and when you can’t. Unless you are calling for Mah Jongg, you need to be able to make a set of at least 3 like tiles to call a tile. Unless you have the skill level set to beginner, the app only offers the Hold and Call buttons when you can call a discarded tile. The game goes much faster if the app doesn’t need to let you try to call tiles that you can’t call anyway. Beginners are offered the Hold and Call buttons for every tile so they can learn which tiles they can call and which they can’t. (Also so they don’t complain about the app not letting them call tiles).
- Beginners often do not know yet when they can call tiles and when they can’t. This is especially true for some of the standard card hands, particularly ones including the year (2026 for example), or NEWS. The tiles in 2026 and in NEWS are all singles and can’t be called unless for Mah Jongg.
- If you have Auto Skip ON, the app may not let you call tiles that you could call. This happens if the tile discarded is not needed for one of the best hands you could be making. You can turn Auto Skip OFF from the main menu or set it in Advanced Setup Options. The purpose of Auto Skip is to allow more advanced players to play as fast as possible by not having to wait for a call decision for every discarded tile when you have more than one Joker
- How can I make the game faster?
- In the Advanced Setup Menu, reduce the delay times and/or increase the game speed
- Mute the voices
- Higher skill levels have faster default settings
- Why doesn’t it recognize that I have Mah Jongg?
- Check that the app is using the card you think you are using. The card being used is listed at the bottom of the table.
- Make sure you’re not doing a closed hand and had called a tile earlier
- Make sure there are no jokers being used in a single or pair
- How can I make it so I have to confirm my Charleston tile selections before they are passed?
- Turn “Auto Done” to “Off”, “Discard”, or “Discard Drag” in Advanced Settings
- How do I change game settings if the a game starts automatically?
- Open the “Menu” from the button and select “Setup” when it is your turn. Change settings and return to the game or quit. Most setting change take place immediately. Some, like Card Type, don’t change until you quit and restart the app or start a new game. Changed settings are remembered for future games.
- Why doesn’t the MahJongg button always show?
- If the Warn MahJongg setting is set to on, the MahJongg button will only show if you have Mah Jongg. Set this setting to off in the Advanced Settings menu to always see the MahJongg button. If you call Mah Jongg when you don’t have it, you will be declared “Dead.”
- Make sure you are using the card you want by checking the card name above and to the right of your rack.
- Why doesn’t JLMahJongg use 3D tiles and tables?
- 2D tiles and tables are used to make the display easier to use on small devices. 3D graphics take up more display space and are harder to see and use. 3D graphics also use more device memory and make the app slower.
- Can I use standard tile designs?
- Yes. If you are more comfortable with standard tile designs, you can select the “Standard” tile type from the Advanced Setup menu. Changes in the setup are remembered for future games.
- What if I don’t like the voices?
- You can add your own voices on devices other than iOS (iPhone & iPad). iOS audio recording currently does not work with the game engine used by JLMahJongg. This may be fixed in the future. Also, you can turn off the voices or reassign voices in the Advanced Settings/Sound menu.
- How do I get a dedicated account?
- Please send us an email at seasidedreamllc@gmail.com or post a request for a dedicated account on this website. You will only need to give us your desired username. We will let you know when the new account is available. If you have logged in to a different account (guest) previously, you will need to logout and then log in to your new account (either no password or a password we have initialized and told you). After you have logged in to your new account, you can set a password in the Advanced Setup menu, if desired. There is a limit to the number of dedicated accounts we can provide, so please only request one if you plan to play regularly. If you do not play for a long time, we may archive your account. You should not need a dedicated account if you only play against bots. Generally if an account is busy, it will automatically be free in about 3 minutes unless the account is being used to play with multiple real players. Also, you can use any of the accounts that are not password protected and the dedicated person probably won’t know or mind.
- Can I get a discard back if I accidentally discarded?
- Currently there is no way to get a tile back once it is discarded. It’s like the tile hits the table. But there are ways to prevent accidental discard. 1. Don’t move your tiles when it is your turn (rack is green), 2. Move tiles from the bottom (tiles must be selected from the top about 1/3 to help prevent accidental discard). 3. Set the Discard Warn setting to “Offense” or “Both”, 4. Set the Auto Done setting to “Off” or “Discard Drag”. Settings are changed from the Setup page “Advanced Setup” button. You will only see this button if your level is above beginner. If your game starts automatically, you can get back to Setup from the main game menu.
