JL2025 Card Coming Soon to JLMahJongg

Hi. In case you’re keeping track of our update progress: I just finished updates to support the 2025 card. Lisa finished creating an Intermediate1 card option & I am going to enter that now. Then I should be ready to clean up the code and publish the updated app (goal is by the end of today). I probably will need to fix a few things later because we’re not testing much so we can get the JL2025 card out ASAP.

Also need to update the manual. I’ll at least put the new Basic2 and Intermediate1 cards in there so you can print them out and use them, if you like.

Remember: if you want your own account, just ask me. There is some limit to how many I will add, so the first people who ask will get their own account. You are welcome to continue using the Guest0, Guest1, Guest2, Guest3, and Tester1 accounts.

If you want to continue using the old version of the app for some reason, you may need to run it in offline mode at some point. That is because I plan to stop maintaining the status data on the internet that version needs.

Update coming soon!

Hi all you Mah Jongg lovers. Thanks for using our app. Is anyone enjoying it? Please let us know what you think.

Congrats to all you players who have racked up a impressive scores and big wins.

We got our NMJL 2025 cards today. So we will have an update with a JL2025 card option soon. The next update will also include: bug fixes, new Basic2 and Inter1 cards (intermediate, a little harder than Basic cards), and a new feature (called training for now) that lets you enter any tiles (13 or 14) or quickly generate random tiles you can use to practice what hand, group, and passed tiles to select.

There are 6 new line types on the 2025 card; so it will take a few days to implement these. Also note that there is one (at least) error on the card. The 2468 group line 4, is shown with all sets in blue (normally would indicate only 1 suit), but it has to have three suits, as noted in the text. Otherwise, you would need 6 twos of the same suit (could do with Jokers, but that is not what was indended due to the text). So the 2468 should be in green, the first 222 in red, and the 2nd 222 in blue.

There are also some JLMahJongg updates under the hood to make the app easier to manage (for me) and more stable (for you). The training update will also help me to test the odds calculations. I am also updating to the latest game engine, Godot 4.4.

Have fun.

New Update 9.7.13 (31)

Happy New Year!

This update fixes one bug that can cause an error and stop the app in some cases when you get Mah Jongg.

We still have not received any feedback on our new app. It would be nice to hear from someone. What do you like or dislike about our app?

You guest0 and guest1 players are still welcome to request your own individual account. Congratulations on being able to win and get such high scores. It is much harder to win at the Pro level. So far we only have one brave pro friend playing at the pro level.

Update 9.7.12 (30) and Good News

Hi Mah Jongg players. A minor update will be available soon. This updated fixes problems if playing with multiple real players. Most people appear to be only playing against all computer players.

The good news is our company, Seaside Dream LLC, has been validated as an official and trustworthy software development company. This means you can now download the Microsoft Windows version of the app from our website without all the warnings about it being unknown and possibly unsafe. Google may scan the .zip file for viruses. It may also ask you to allow use of the microphone.

Google also plans to release more Google Play Games on PC android apps. This will be an alternate way to play on a Windows PC. We will try to get our app available that way as well.

Congratulations to the Guest0 and Guest1 players that have been winning a lot and achieving record scores. If it gets too easy, you might want to go up to a higher level and/or use the JL2024 card. Also, you are welcome to request your own account to keep track of just your scores (completely free).

As always, we welcome any feedback on anything you don’t like, would like added/changed, or things you particularly like.

Thanks,

John & Lisa

Update 9.7.10

This update fixes a bug in the Auto Hold function pointed out by a player (Thank You). It also makes the beginner computer players play more like beginners (they only try to make one hand at a time). Another change is: at the beginner skill level, the app shows the hold and call buttons for every discarded tile, whether or not you can call the tile. This is so beginners can learn which tiles they can call and which tiles they can’t. Often beginners (and some experienced players) feel the app is not letting them try to call tiles they should be able to call.

If you dislike this change, just set your skill level to intermediate. This will change all the options to the defaults for intermediate. You can then change any of the options back to what they were, if you like.

There is still a minor bug in the auto hold where it flashes the call button after every discard when ON. Also there is a bug in cancelling a call if playing with multiple real players. I will fix these bugs in the next update. Let me know if you find any other bugs. Thank You.

Thank You

Thanks to everyone who downloaded our new app and especially for upgrading to the latest version. There have not been any server file deletion problems for a while now.

Those playing are mostly using the guest0 account, the basic1 card, and playing against 3 computer players. The guest0 account score has been mostly going down, so do I need to add a computer player level that is a little easier to beat for beginning players? I am not aware of any other app problems when playing against all computer players, so if you are having any problems, please let me know.

For any experienced Mah Jongg players, remember you can switch to the 2024 card (JL2024) or use the standard tile designs, if you like.

Update 9.7.9

This update fixes one major bug that can happen when you call a tile for Mah Jongg. I don’t know why we didn’t catch this bug sooner. 9.7.9 also includes several minor improvements and additions. Note that version 9.7.8 had a problem and was not released for most devices. 9.7.9 is now available for macos, iOS, Windows, and Android. If you want to use Linux, let me know and I will upgrade that version too.

The app now displays the short version number used by Apple and Android devices, 27 for 9.7.9.

Sorry for the high rate of updates and bug fixes. Hopefully this will slow down now that the app has been released for a few weeks. We have been developing and testing for about 4 years.

But please upgrade because the older versions can remove the server file and prevent access until I restore the file. Restoring resets all the stored scores to zero.

Please upgrade to version 9.7.7

Anyone using an older version might be causing one of the server files to get deleted. When this happens, nobody can log in until I reset the file. This happened again recently and I could tell it was done by an older version of the app. In the latest version, only an administrator should be able to delete the file. If this keeps happenng, I will have to force everyone to upgrade or not be able to play.

On Apple devices, the app lower left corner will still say it is still 9.7.6, but it is really 9.7.7 (as it says when you are downloading on the App Store). I will fix in the next update.

Feedback

We would be interested to know if anyone has been able to learn how to play American Mah Jongg using our app. That was one of our original goals and we don’t know to what degree we succeeded. Or are you already a Mah Jongg expert? Or just let us know anything else you like, don’t like, or would want changed.

Thanks,

John & Lisa

Update 9.7.7

I think I finally fixed access to the JL2024 card data. Please let me know if you still have any problems.

Note: if you have the network disabled, the game skips the lobby and starts the game immediately. To change the card or any other setting: when it is your turn, go back to the lobby from the menu and change the settings. You can then return to the game or quit and restart. Most changes take place immediately, but the card type will not change until your next game.

Thanks,

John
