Hi. Update 10.1.0 is available as of 1 Jan 2026. Here is a summary of changes:

1. Red and green dragons now have G and R on them so they can be distinguished by anyone colorblind.
2. Playing against more than 1 other real player should now work (tested with 3 real players, have not tested 4 yet).
3. The default server is now jlbeachhouse.com instead of jlmahjongg-te7287h1dv.live-website.com/. The x10.mx server has been unreliable for use with playing other real players. I know that most, if not all, users other than us only play against bots. But if you do want to play against other real players, that should be better now. jlbeachhouse.com is our business server and is more reliable, but sometimes can be slow. If you don't play against other real players, it should not matter which server you use. Please see the updated manual for how to set up to play with other real players.
4. At the beginner skill level the app lets you try to call any tile, even those you can’t call. It was up to you to figure out that you can’t call the tile and cancel the call. I expect most beginners just thought that the app was stuck and got mad. If a beginner calls a tile they can’t call now, the app shows a message explaining why and what to do.
5. The network interface has been further simplified. There are effectively only 2 network options, HTTP and Direct. Use direct for playing with someone in the same household on the same wifi network. Use HTTP for anyone else (not on your local wifi network, if you have one). You can use HTTP on a local wifi too, but it is much slower than direct.
6. There is a new network input that lets people play over the network in different time zones. Previously, the app would automatically log one of the users out because it thought they were offline (time difference). Now you can disable the automatic logout due to time difference. Please don’t disable this unless you need to because auto logging out helps make the app available to more people.
7. The pro computer player (bot) logic has been upgraded to try to score higher and the finesse logic has been improved.
8. There are a number of minor bug fixes and upgrades.
9. A new update of the Godot game engine the app uses was just released and we have updated that. I don’t know if that changes anything that you will notice.

Sorry that the app was not available today because I exceeded the server disk space limit. I will be more careful not to upload too much now that I know the limit. I had to delete some of my blog data. I will have to store it somewhere else or have users request it if they want it.

The JLMahJongg app should be working again now.

Hi Mah Jongg lovers. This minor update is now available. It fixes problems with calling Mah Jongg by using the call button instead of the MahJongg button. Also a few other minor updates.

Another problem with JLMahJongg reading files from the server today. Usually goes away. Can’t find files when use HTTP: instead of HTTPS:, but get connect error if use HTTPS: . May need to switch to a different server if this keeps happening. Fortunately, you should still be able to play against all computer players in No Internet Mode.

This required update fixes several bugs and improves graphics, especially for smaller devices, like iPhones.

This update is required to make sure all users are on the same page. Devices using different versions can’t communicate.

This update also enables guest users to select their own name instead of the guest account name. This name is used in the game and on the scoreboard. There is not much reason to use a dedicated account if you are playing against all computer players. I also now prefer using the guest accounts because additional dedicated accounts slow app startup.

Hi Mah Jongg Lovers. A few updates are coming soon:

1. App update 10.0.4 – Improved graphics – my sister, Sally, has given suggestions based on her JLMahJongg use with her small iPhone. Also a few bug fixes and those using the guest accounts can customize what they are called (name in game and is visible on records/scoreboard will be the device/profile name you can modify, specific to each device). Most people have been using the guest accounts and playing against all computer players. You can preview the graphics changes on the web version.
2. Updated report/lesson on use of higher value hands – almost done with this analysis (based on about 75,000 games).

The problem seems to be fixed now. If still having problems, contact me.

Thursday Nov. 6, 2025. There is a problem with the app not being able to access the jlmahjongg-te7287h1dv.live-website.com/ server files. This is on the server side and has happened before. In the past it has been fixed after a while. If not fixed by tomorrow, I will investigate.

You should still be able to use the app in “No Internet” mode or play online.
