Update 9.7.9

This update fixes one major bug that can happen when you call a tile for Mah Jongg. I don’t know why we didn’t catch this bug sooner. 9.7.9 also includes several minor improvements and additions. Note that version 9.7.8 had a problem and was not released for most devices. 9.7.9 is now available for macos, iOS, Windows, and Android. If you want to use Linux, let me know and I will upgrade that version too.

The app now displays the short version number used by Apple and Android devices, 27 for 9.7.9.

Sorry for the high rate of updates and bug fixes. Hopefully this will slow down now that the app has been released for a few weeks. We have been developing and testing for about 4 years.

But please upgrade because the older versions can remove the server file and prevent access until I restore the file. Restoring resets all the stored scores to zero.

Please upgrade to version 9.7.7

Anyone using an older version might be causing one of the server files to get deleted. When this happens, nobody can log in until I reset the file. This happened again recently and I could tell it was done by an older version of the app. In the latest version, only an administrator should be able to delete the file. If this keeps happenng, I will have to force everyone to upgrade or not be able to play.

On Apple devices, the app lower left corner will still say it is still 9.7.6, but it is really 9.7.7 (as it says when you are downloading on the App Store). I will fix in the next update.

Feedback

We would be interested to know if anyone has been able to learn how to play American Mah Jongg using our app. That was one of our original goals and we don’t know to what degree we succeeded. Or are you already a Mah Jongg expert? Or just let us know anything else you like, don’t like, or would want changed.

Thanks,

John & Lisa

Update 9.7.7

I think I finally fixed access to the JL2024 card data. Please let me know if you still have any problems.

Note: if you have the network disabled, the game skips the lobby and starts the game immediately. To change the card or any other setting: when it is your turn, go back to the lobby from the menu and change the settings. You can then return to the game or quit and restart. Most changes take place immediately, but the card type will not change until your next game.

Thanks,

John

Update 9.7.6

This update fixes a problem that was deleting one of the server files when a user network error occurred. Upgrades include an option to change the profile name and a button to pop up a summary of the tile characteristics. This update is available now for macos, windows, and in the latest browser version. It is in review with Apple and Google.

There is still a problem with selecting the 2024 card data if you don’t also have a card manually entered. I will fix this in the next version, probably tomorrow.

Guest Login

Since everyone so far is using the guest accounts, here are a few suggestions:

  1. The app logs you in as the first guest account currently not in use, which is usually guest0. The next time you start the app it will try to log you in to the same account again, guest0. If someone else is using guest0 you will get a message that it is in us and use another account. To do this you should be able to select one of the other guest accounts (guest1, guest2, guest3, or tflight1) and press login. Note when the other account line is selected (each line is a button), it will turn green.
  2. Please don’t leave the app logged in to a guest account for a long time without playing, so someone else can use it, if they want.

Update 9.7.5

Update 9.7.5 is being reviewed by Apple and Google. It should be available soon if it passes the review. This update includes more fixes to logging in and out and includes an option for playing with 2024 card data.

I notice that very few people are playing the app version, even though there have been about 50 Apple downloads. If there is some problem with the game or anything we can do to make it better, please let us know. You can contact us using email, this blog, or phone. If you are playing the online version or using the new offline mode, we can’t tell that, so please let us know so we continue supporting this app.

Nobody has requested their own account to play under either. You are welcome to do that if you want to keep your scores separate from other players or have any trouble accessing the common guest accounts.

I will update the web, Windows, and Linux versions soon too.

Thank you.

Update 9.7.4 and 2024 Cards

Update 9.7.4 is available that fixes some bugs, including some problems with logging in and out and quitting. Quitting from the main game menu on iPads and iPhones does not close the table (new bug), so you need to manually quit if this happens. I will fix this in the next version. I also made it so you can’t add a password to the guest accounts.

I have not yet fixed the bug that is causing people to not be able to log in periodically. When this happens I have to reset the server data file. It has happened 3 times so far, including last night some time. Fixing this problem will take a while. Sorry. I think it can happen if multiple people are trying to log in at the same time.

We have not received any feedback from anyone and don’t know if we should continue to support this app or if nobody is interested in it. Perhaps you would only use it if the current (2024) NMJL card data were available and you didn’t have to type it in? If this is the case, please let us know. The NMJL did not exactly say we couldn’t use the data, they just said that they didn’t give anyone else permission to use it. Since the other American Mah Jongg apps use the NMJL data, we may assume that we can too. I probably would make it so you can’t edit or view/print the NMJL card unless you enter it yourself; but you would be able to play with it without typing it in. What do you think?

2024 Cards

I haven’t seen anyone using a 2024 card that they entered. If you are a National Mah Jongg (NMJL) member, then you probably want to use that card. If you need help entering the card data using the card editor, please ask me. You can also contact the NMJL and ask them to let us license their card data so you don’t have to enter it yourself.

Thanks,

John & Lisa

Update 9.7.3 Available

Please upgrade to this version when you can. Most of the older versions will no longer work starting 10/11/2024. I am aware of another problem that can happen when multiple users are in the Lobby at the same time. This can corrupt the common user file and prevent everyone from logging in. If this happens, contact me and I will fix it. I am working on a fix for this problem for a future update. Sorry for this and any other problems with our app.

In addition, playing against other real players over the internet is still in beta test phase. We are working of fixing several bugs in this functionality. The app may hang or give an error when playing other real players over the internet.

Another problem is the app not always logging out when you quit. If you try to log right back in, it will tell you the account is already in use. If no one else is using the account, it will automatically log out in about 3 minutes and then you can log back in. Or log in to a different account, if available. You can request your own account to help reduce this type of problem.

If you just want to play against all computer players, you can also try the web version.

Thank you.
